Democratizing Access to Venture—and Expanding Who Shapes It

Black Men in Venture exists to democratize access to venture by building the community, pathways, and opportunities Black men need to enter, advance, lead, own, and allocate capital across the innovation economy.

We are building more than a professional network. We are building the infrastructure Black men need to discover venture, establish meaningful careers, grow into leadership, create investment vehicles, and influence where capital flows.

Because representation alone is not the destination. The goal is access, advancement, ownership, and the power to shape the future of the industry.

Why This Work Matters

Venture capital determines which ideas receive funding, which founders get the opportunity to build, and which companies have the resources to scale. Yet the people making those decisions have historically represented only a narrow portion of the communities their investments affect.

The gap is bigger than representation. It is also a gap in access to networks, mentorship, sponsorship, deal flow, ownership, and decision-making authority.

Venture has always run on relationships. For too long, many of the relationships that open doors, accelerate careers, create funds, and move capital have remained difficult for Black men to access.

BMV is building the network and pathways needed to change that.

Building the Full Pathway to Generational Wealth

Black Men in Venture supports Black men across every stage of the venture and startup ecosystem—from first discovering the industry to determining where capital flows.

The pathway is not one-size-fits-all or strictly linear. Some members are students discovering venture for the first time. Others are founders, operators, consultants, bankers, or corporate professionals seeking a way into the industry. Many are already investors, platform leaders, partners, or emerging fund managers looking for the community and resources needed to reach their next level.

Wherever someone enters, BMV helps them move forward.

The BMV Pathway

    We introduce Black men to how venture capital works, the people who shape it, and the range of opportunities available across investing, platform, operations, entrepreneurship, and capital formation.

    For those working to break into the ecosystem.

    We create tangible pathways through scout programs, fellowships, internships, education, mentorship, and direct career connections.

  • Advance

    For analysts, associates, principals, platform professionals, founders, and operators already doing the work.

    We provide the community, sponsorship, skills, relationships, and opportunities professionals need to build their track records and progress in their careers.

  • Lead

    For the senior investors, founders, operators, and ecosystem leaders shaping the industry today.

    BMV connects Black men leading funds, companies, teams, and investment strategies to curated deal flow, co-investment opportunities, strategic relationships, and one another.

    For those building companies, funds, and institutions of their own.

    We support Black men launching companies and investment vehicles, raising capital, stepping into GP and LP roles, and becoming institutional decision-makers.
